Why are there no elephants at Paignton Zoo?
It is understood that Paignton Zoo has committed not to keep elephants in the future. We hope that this principle is adopted across zoos in the UK. Duchess was previously housed at Paignton Zoo with a female Asian elephant called Gay, but has sadly been alone since Gay was put to sleep in 2010 due to chronic illness.

Can I take my dog to Paignton Zoo?
We regret that guest’s dogs or pets are not permitted in the zoo, except for registered assistance dogs. Here at the zoo we welcome assistance dogs and want to make your visit to us as enjoyable as possible. Bicycles, scooters and skateboards are not allowed within the zoo.
